How do I add a spool?

Two ways:

1. Tap + Add spool on Home (or the + button in your Library).
2. Pick a colour, brand and material (PLA, PETG… are first in the list), and set the weights — Current, Full and Empty (the empty spool weight).
3. Optionally add cost, a storage condition and a location, then tap Save.

Have a Bambu Lab spool? Just tap the phone to its RFID tag on the Add-spool screen and the brand, material, colour and weight fill in automatically.

What do the “96%” badges and green / amber / red mean?

That’s the spool’s moisture (shown with a water-drop), and the colour is its drying status:

• Green — Ready: dry enough to print.
• Amber — Caution: picking up moisture; dry it soon.
• Red — Re-dry: past the threshold for its material — dry before printing.

How does DrySpool know if a spool is dry? Is there a sensor?

No sensor — it’s an estimate. DrySpool models how fast each material absorbs moisture from the air, adjusted for how the spool is stored (sealed with desiccant, in an AMS, open shelf…), the ambient humidity, and the time since it was last dried. Completing a drying session or changing the storage condition updates the estimate. You can set a default ambient humidity in Settings → Alerts & Insights, or a per-location override.

How do I start a drying session?

1. Open a spool (or long-press several in the Library) and tap Start drying.
2. Set the temperature and hours (sensible defaults are pre-filled per material).
3. Pick the dryer you’re using, confirm the spools in the batch, and tap Start.

When the timer ends, the batch is marked dry automatically and you get a heads-up notification — no need to tap anything.

Why won’t my drying session start?

The Start button stays greyed out until everything’s valid — the reason shows in red next to it:

• “Pick a dryer.” — you need to add a dryer (Settings → Hardware → Manage dryers) and select it.
• Too many spools — the batch can’t exceed the dryer’s free slots.
• Temperature / hours — both must be filled in with valid numbers.

Can spools move to a location automatically when I dry them?

Yes. Edit a location (a dryer-slot or a drying-capable AMS) and set its Linked dryer. After that, starting a drying session in that dryer moves the whole batch to that location automatically.

How do I print a QR label?

1. Spool: open the spool → Label → Print label.
2. Location: Settings → Hardware → Manage locations → tap the QR icon on a location → Print label.

Printing uses Android’s normal print dialog, so you can send it to any printer or save as PDF. Stick the label on the spool or shelf and scan it later to jump straight there.

Pro users can restyle labels (colours, QR style, monogram) in Settings → Library → Customise label design.

Scanning a spool QR opens my browser instead of the app

DrySpool labels use a web link so any camera app can open them. If Android opens it in a browser instead of the app, set DrySpool as the default handler: Android Settings → Apps → DrySpool → Open by default → add the noobventure.com links. Inside the app, the built-in Scan button always opens spools/locations directly.

My Bambu RFID tag won’t read

• Hold the back of the phone flat against the spool tag (NFC antenna location varies by phone) and keep it still for a second.
• Make sure NFC is enabled in Android settings.
• Some newer Bambu cardboard-core refill tags use a non-standard chip that phones can’t read (the AMS still can). Those can’t be auto-filled — add the spool manually.

How do I move spools to a shelf, dry box or AMS slot?

• One spool: open it → Set location → pick a location (or create one).
• Several: long-press in the Library to select, then Move.
• By scan: scan spools, then scan a printed location label to drop them all there.

What’s the difference between Free and Pro?

Free is the full app for up to 12 spools — moisture tracking, drying, QR labels, Bambu RFID and backups all included. Pro is a one-time unlock (no subscription, no ads) that adds unlimited spools, the Insights dashboard, re-dry & low-stock reminders, a photo gallery, bulk RFID add, custom label design, scheduled auto-backup, CSV export, and extra themes / app icons.

I already bought Pro — how do I restore it?

Open Settings and tap Restore purchase (top of the screen). As long as you’re signed in to the same Google account that bought it, Pro re-unlocks. A one-time purchase carries across reinstalls and new devices on that account.

How do I back up my data or move to a new phone?

1. On the old phone: Settings → Data → Export backup — this saves a .dryspool file with every spool, photo, profile and setting.
2. Move that file to the new phone (Drive, email, cable…).
3. On the new phone: Settings → Data → Import backup and pick the file.

Pro users can turn on Auto-backup to write a dated .dryspool to a folder of their choice (OneDrive, Drive, local…) on a schedule.

Is my data private?

Yes — DrySpool is offline-first. Everything lives on your device: no account, no cloud, no analytics, no ads. Camera and NFC are used only on-device to scan QR codes and Bambu tags. See the privacy policy for details.

I’m not getting drying / re-dry notifications

Make sure notifications are allowed: Android Settings → Apps → DrySpool → Notifications. The app asks for this on first launch; if you declined, drying still completes silently but you won’t get the heads-up. Re-dry and low-stock reminders are Pro and can be toggled in Settings → Alerts & Insights.

Insights looks empty

Insights charts your usage over time, so it needs a bit of history first. Log a few prints (Log a print on Home, or on a spool) or record weigh-ins, and the used/spend graphs, most-used colours and “days of filament left” forecast will fill in.
